There will be a guide in Retro tram during Riga Festival
"Rīgas satiksme" will offer passengers of the Retro tram services of a guide for free during Riga City Festival. During the trip, the guide will tell not only about the monuments of cultural and historic heritage located along the route, but also about the history of Riga’s tram and how the Retro tram was built. You can listen to the guide if you go by the Retro tram from Ausekļa Street on Saturday, August 15, at 14.00 and 15.34, on Sunday, August 16, at 10.45 and 12.30, or from Mežaparks on Saturday, August 15, at 14.59 and 16.29, and on Sunday, August 16, at 11.54 and 13.24.
The Retro tram will run from the tram terminal in Ausekļa Street to the terminal in Mežaparks.
The route starts from Ausekļa Street and goes along the old Kronvalds’ Park. The next stop is the Latvian National Theatre. It was opened in September 1902 as the city’s 2nd theatre or Riga Russian Theatre. Then the Retro tram runs along Zigfrīda Annas Meierovica Boulevard, which dates back to the late 1850s. In 1929, the boulevard was named after Z.A. Meierovics, Latvia’s Foreign Minister who died in a car crash. Then the Retro tram goes into Krišjāņa Barona Street, which was founded in 1858, when Riga’s fortifications were pulled down. At the time, the new street connected the old town with Lielā Pirts Street in Petersburg Suburb across the city canal bridge, as a continuation of Audēju Street into the district of boulevards. From Matīsa Street, which was first mentioned in the list of Riga streets back in 1810 as Lēģera Street, and got its present name in 1885, the Retro tram goes turns into Miera Street, which dates back to 1859. After crossing Brasas Bridge, the Retro tram goes along Čiekurkalns and the 1st and 2nd Forest Cemeteries, to Mežaparks.
The price of the ticket is constant – 2 EUR (for children up to the age of 7 it is for free). Tickets are sold by the tram driver and is valid for one trip to the route’s terminal.
